ABOUT POLE PURSUITS
Pole Pursuits was started in March 2008 by Cat Spence and her friend Sarah. Cat had already been pole dancing for over 2 years and wanted to demonstrate the pole could be used as a tool for fun and fitness without the usual perception that follows “pole dancers”. She strongly believes that pole dancing is a performing art that requires commitment and dedication and should be taken seriously as a fitness discipline just like any other type of dance or gymnastics. Pole classes are a great change to normal exercise classes as well as being fun and social, a great way to unwind and switch off from daily stresses. It is really exciting to see what your body can do on a pole and learn all the different moves and names. Pole dancing is not just an exotic dance style reserved for strip clubs at night. It is now a fitness movement present in many gyms and other venues available to anyone wanting to try it.
WANT TO REDEEM A VOUCHER?
If you have received a gift voucher or have a Groupon voucher please book in the same way but in the comments box of the form write in Groupon security and voucher codes or your name if it is a gift voucher. You do not need to pay once this form has been submitted if voucher details have been entered. PARKING
This is available behind the castle gate either around the back of the Carlton bar or off the dual carriageway by Kenway Tyres. There is also another car park off the harbour roundabout or you can use Union Square parking. Parking by Kwik fit on Market Street is free in the streets around.
WHAT TO WEAR
Shorts and t-shirt with bare feet is recommended. You can wear leggings or long trousers but this will lower the grip with your legs and make your arms do more work. As some poles are on podiums it is not advised to wear heels for health and safety reasons.
TIME KEEPING RULES
Please be on time for the class. Please note that there is a 10 minute rule. If you arrive after 10 past then you cannot participate as you cannot be joined into the class. If it starts at 6pm please aim to arrive on or before 5.50pm in order to fill out your registration form before participation. If you are delayed then please contact Pole Pursuits on 07528 651071.
WHAT IS THE CLASS STRUCTURE
Pole class will last one hour. You will begin the class with a warm up. This will be followed by you getting acquainted with the pole and learning some joins, poses and spins and then working them together in a routine. You will then end the class with a cool down.
CREAMS AND LOTIONS
Please do not apply creams or moisturiser before the lesson. This will make it harder for you and others on your pole to hold on.
CANNOT MAKE A CLASS?
If you have booked into a course and you cannot make a class, please get in contact a minimum of 48 hours before the class and it may be possible to move your class to another day within the week (subject to availability). If you do not get in contact or there are not spaces then you will lose the booking. Please note missed classes cannot be carried over onto a new block. All classes must be taken within the same block.
SEND A FRIEND
If you cannot make a class then you can send a friend in your place as long as they are of an appropriate level.
WHY DO POLE CLASSES COST MORE THAN OTHERs?
A pole fitness instructor has many costs to run the classes such as venue costs to provide a suitable private location, insurance costs for working with members of the public, advertising and merchandise to ensure people hear about the classes. Pole dancing instruction is a specialised profession and it is likely that the instructor has spent a lot of time training to gain the required skills and experience and will have paid for qualifications and first aid training to further ensure safety. Equipment is another large cost to ensure that there are enough poles and mats available to increase safety. Unlike other types of dance, class sizes need to be limited so that there are never more then 3 to a pole to maximise students learning, this means that spaces are limited to around 15 a class and the cost of teaching the classes need to be divided amongst these spaces
